May your hats be big…And your Juleps be fine..
One day we will cross it off my bucket list and actually get a chance to go to Louisville & watch it in person…but for now I’m happy with a backyard derby party!
I love any excuse to dress up and throw a themed gathering with friends! The Kentucky Derby is the perfect opportunity! First things first… Finding the perfect hat! Because.. Well everyone knows it wouldn’t be a derby party without big hats & bow ties!
We’ve been blessed with some incredible weather lately, so I knew we had to take advantage of it! We converted our whole backyard into our own little Churchill Downs escape. We had yard games, a friendly betting booth, Kentucky inspired food & it wouldn’t be a true derby party without our very own Julep bar!
- Benedictine Sandwich
- Pimento Cheese dip
- Southern style pickled shrimp
- Deviled eggs
- Chips & salsa( It was Cinco De Mayo)
- Smoked wild boar
- Bourbon pecan chocolate chip cookies
All of the food that was served were small bites & finger foods to make it easier to walk around and really enjoy spending more time with friends. My favorite part was seeing how elaborate everyone got with their outfits! Everyone really got in the spirit of the derby.
I loved getting creative with the whole day. From decorating my derby hat & repurposing old faux flowers around the house. To picking out Josh’s dapper outfit & coming up with fun foods for the day! We had such a great time I think Ill have to make it an annual gathering from here on out! Did y’all do anything fun this year for the 144th Kentucky Derby?
