Happy Fat Tuesday y’all!
I think my love for Mardi Gras came from my first trip to New Orleans. We were going for a long weekend to meet up with some friends that live in Florida. We lived in South Texas at the time and NOLA was halfway! We accidentally booked our trip the weekend before Fat Tuesday that year..Accident or not thats where it all started!
Fast forward a few years later… Here we are in our small town that celebrates Mardi Gras in a big way! We have our own little French Quarter with restaurants that have delicious beignets. This is our first Mardi Gras living here and they definitely didn’t disappoint! ( Fun fact… Mardi Gras actually originated in Mobile, AL)
The best part this year was bringing Kinley to her first parade! It was the perfect one for her..The Mystic Mutts, an all dog parade… How can you go wrong? The sweet pups were all decked out in their purple, green & gold! There were costumes, mini dog floats, moon pies being throw, and lots of beads!
I’d be lying though If I didn’t say my all time favorite part about Mardi Gras was the cajun cooking I get to do. All cajun food has a special place in my heart. But jambalaya takes the cake! I usually only make it once a year. Even though its probably top 5 favorite dishes! Gumbo is my number two favorite cajun dish, but I leave the cooking up to my best friend in Texas for that one!
Some kind of King Cake dessert is a must! we may or may not of already had king cake cheesecake, doughnuts, & I picked up a king cake from Warehouse Bakery in town with a not so traditional filling that was amazing. Make sure you check your piece for the baby!
(Oh and King Cake calories don’t count!)
